Dear Mr. Hennessy,

To say I was delighted to get your Air mail letter is putting it mildly, because we mislaid your address and did not know how I was to get in touch with you again. I knew you must have gone back to Cana[da] seeing I hadn't received a visit from you when you write ago will you please let me have your home address.
I am sure you must be glad to be home again and I am sure so is Mrs Hennessy. It must have bene lovely to meet all your family again after such a long absence.
My sister Katie got married on the 9th Fdy and as she and her husband are staying with mother I had to get a room for myself. I sold my house as it was too big for me and, being out at the shop all day, I thought a room would do, so I have a very large one in a hotel. It is a lonely life and you have no idea how I miss John - he was such a chum and I feel my best friend has gone. Still I must "grin and bear it" - God's ways are not our ways.
I have asked Mss Kerr (Mrs Grenam) for a photo as I know she is having her twins photographed. They are now 2 years old.
Glad to hear Eddie O'Toole is back home again and I do so hope he will be successful with his taxi.
The Currens Duggys & Jimmy are all well and many a time when we all meet we speak about you always when we meet they all ask "Have you had any word from Mr. Hennessy." Believe me Mrs Hennessy would be jealous if she only knew how many girl friends you left over on this side not counting the males. All my friends thought a great deal of you, and I hope that someday both you and Mrs Hennessy may be able to pay Scotland a visit.
At the moment the weather is just lovely (last week it was warmer than many a day in Summer)

In the margin of Page 1:

We are still on rations as before, and our clothing coupons have been cut. Still we could be worse off. Mother is wonderful. She is in her 81st year. Remember me to Mrs. Hennessy & family. Sincerely yours Anne Mackie
