Well as usual it takes a wet or miserable day to make me do any amount of serious letter writing, so I should get quite a few letters off tonight. I received your last letter about four days ago and 300 cigs. the day before yesterday. The parcel containing all the bars was the last one I got from you or anybody else. Mail is not much better but it is slowly improving. Had four letters from Fanny the same time as your last one and were written over a period of a month. Nothing from Anna for about two months but Lucy isn’t doing too badly. Haven’t heard from Bobby since he wrote from Moncton and only one letter so far from Bruno.

You, Papa and Fanny seem to be the only steady ones or else its because your mail is luckier and manages to get through every time. I think when I wrote you last that I told you I was in Belgium. Well I am now in Holland. Fanny said that her brother Jimmy was in Belgium the same time I was and if only I had know it I could easily have got in touch with him for Belgium is a much smaller country than you may think and it was fairly easy for us to get around too. Holland doesn’t seem so much different except that the people seem much friendlier, but don’t seem to dress as well as the Belgians. The windmill is in great use and

although the girls and women don’t wear the funny pointed dutch caps the men realy go in a big way for wooden clogs. Gosh but they are large clumsy looking things and must be very hard on the feet. However it means only about fifty cents or a dollar for a new pair of shoes. The cheap ones are plain and the dearer ones have designs painted on them. If I can manage to bring home a pair I will. Don’t worry about me being home before Papa because that is almost an impossibility. He should be home for this coming Xmas. I wouldn’t be surprised if I had to finish my three years overseas which is very likely. Oh well after all I can spend all the rest of

my life in Canada which believe me I’m looking forward to. Its all very fine seeing these different countries but once you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all especially in wartime. When peace comes it may be altogether different. At least that’s what my geography said and all the other books I’ve read concerning it that I can remember of. I suppose there is a lot of rumors around home about the fellows still home who may have to go to Burma or thereabouts. I guess they didn’t think about that a couple of years ago. I imagine we will be pretty well clear of that from what we are able to find out, but as you know feom my telling you nothing would surprise me about what

the government may decide to do about us.
Is Eileen still in Montreal? Does she intend to join Roger out west or is he coming back. He should be just about due either for another promotion or a discharge soon shouldn’t he.
I am sending you fifty dollars in about two or three payments. The first will arrive about two months or more from now. In the meantime would you send Frances fifty dollars. You know her address I think 4290 Montrose Avenue. Westmount Montreal Quebec. This just about finishes me up for tonight. Give my love to everyone including the baby. All my love
