Dear Mother:

Your letter arrived tonight at suppertime and I received the papers and cake allright. the cake was very good, wasn't broken up a bit because of the pan. It doesn't matter whether you put 8B on my letters or not for its only my barrack block number. The only reason for it is to be able to find a fellow easier with it. We collect our mail at the post office and so all the adress necessary is that above.

I haven't seen that Hachey fellow yet but I know him well. I'm working at nights and I suppose that is why I didn't run into him yet.
We had a bad crash up here yesterday morning and two fellows were killed in the plane. One plane ran into a cable which was being towed behind another and tore on of his wings off. It fell from three thousand feet making mincemeat out of the pilot and his helper. Honestly you could hardly tell it was a plane at all after the crash.
The plan that was towing

the cable wasn't damaged at all. At the end of these cables which are about a quarter inch thick and two thousand feet long is a target for the training of airgunners. It was purely carelessness that caused the accident. It was the third accident on this station with in a month.
Well there are only five days left before my exam and ten before my furlough starts. The exam will be on the 25 or 26th, and will mean getting my L.A.C. props. four or five months sooner if I pass okay.
What kind of weather are

you having down home now? It has already snowed twice up here and the nights are very cold. For the past five days when it wasn't snowing it was raining like the devil. All we could do on our own time was sleep.
I'll let you know how the exam comes out and when I will get my furlough although I expect it to start the first of November.
There isn't anything else I can think of to tell you so write again soon.
Love
James.
Those pictures I sent you are of T.T.S. St Thomas and the X is the room where I slept.
