Our Dearest Pat
Please forgive me not replying sooner to your ever welcome letter received some time ago. It came as Don & the boys were getting ready to go on holiday by car to Perth. William got his leave & it all fitted in grand. They had a lovely time & it will always be a lovely memory for the boys to have had that with Daddy. The weather was very hot not a drop rain nor since until yesterday & now it is broken up. The harvesting is stopped. Don is in Beauly now he is helping on a field there, but I expect him home any minute I think I hear him say when he comes who are you writing. He should really write you. I must get Simon to but you know how mother has to fill in there as in most things, not that I mind indeed I love writing my dear friends so I feel I have had a talk with them. Simon is back to school. He is not home so early now. He will be nearing Brochis now & then for his second dinner. He was very sad last night Don found dear old Korky the cat dead along the edge of the field. We can’t say how she met her end but we will miss her in lots of way. Poor Simon I was heartsore for him last night.
I had a fine holiday too. April had lots waiting me when I got home jam making etc. all were so kind it just made me soft like being mothered again. I must not forget to thank you for the books which arrived for don, & were much read & enjoyed. He showed the pictures of the scouts to several old scouts. Thanks also for my book which arrived last Fri. Simon had his nose in it all night. I do hope you are feeling better Pat dear you must really for you must have that holiday.
Well who do you think we had the day after Don & the boys got home non less a person than Father McGuire. Don of course heard from Fr. Geddes that he was across but we didn’t expect him here. Lady Sybil was driving him. I had a lot of rhubard on the fire and we had a good laugh remember how he took the bundle while here also the big leaf for McKenna. He was disappointed we didn’t get the book he sent Fr. Geddes about Mg McCaskhill. Don must call for it. He is looking very well he looked different in the dark clothes. He said tell Pat I just made a job to get over, tell him I hope to see him some time. With Lady S being with him we didn’t get such a lot of news & of course he was in a hurry but it was very nice of him to call. William was at home so he saw them both. He could hardly believe they

Could have grown so much. He told L. Sybil he watched them grow for the last 7 years.
Don saw Laclin the other day & he told him you were asking for him. He is still the same. Also Mrs Nith. Margaret I don’t think intends going out there. Peter Pearce is around Beauly I suppose he is discharged now & will be looking for a job. It is nice you seeing so many of the old Canadian Brides. I had no word from Jenings wife for quite a while & no word J staff or A is staff either. I must see Mark Stewarts mother, I mean A is Jokng I expect A – will be being staff.
Have you heard anything of Picle lately? Mrs. Targott was down lately & said George had come east again. I expect you are right in your guess.. Mrs. Targett is very well and after her Fr. Vardy & family are well the children are growing big. Kathy husband & family are also well. You were asking who was in Balblair house. It is a let for shooting fette. Lady Laura is not getting on very well. Fr. McGuire said she was very down. How very strange Gracie Fields is on now & guess what she is singing Macnamaras band & you know how it goes “Hennessy Hennessy”. She is great & is a good as ever. I sent you a bundle of papers last week I hope you got them. I hope Mrs. Hennessy head is better now. Was it from that hurt she got when you were here. Pleased to hear all the family news. Auntie Alice & Joennie were with Nana in Ayr for a week. Catherines husband & family kept house. Jimmy said before Granny comes home so much brush this road right down the hill. I wish you saw Angela dance with her kilt on & all her medals dangling. I hope you can read this. Write soon again Lots of love from Don, William Simon & your friend Hannah.
